» gidgelux - Who wouldn't like to be a ski bum?

Hi Lynn!

Welcome to Suite 101. I happen to be from Idaho, and oddly enough, my father was a Sun Valley ski bum during his bachelor years. He still speaks fondly of meeting John Wayne and working nights so he could ski all day. Glad to hear someone touting Idaho as something beyond the Potato state. Glad to have you.

Hi Bridget!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I think I read something you wrote about Idaho? I was wondering if you had insider knowledge...

I'm from New Jersey, but I LOVE it here!

Best,

Lynn

Well, you're in good company. The Outdoors reporter/photographer for The Idaho Statesman is also from New Jersey. Pete Zimowsky has been at The Statesman about 34 years or so now.(We used to be on the same team as I was the Outdoors Editor there for a few years). I'm heading back to Idaho in January for a visit (and skiing).
Anyway, have a great time with Suite101!

Well, come say hi when you are up here! We'll do a run or two...

Did you know The Statesman changed hands? It's really changed and I don't think for the better. But I love the Outdoor Special Section on Thursdays! Were you involved with that?

Yes, I did know The Statesman changed hands - twice, actually, in the past year. I remain in daily contact with some of my former co-workers. And yes, I was involved with the development and launch of Idaho Outdoors, the Thursday section. It was a very rewarding venture. Glad you like it, and I look forward to reading your features.
