The Ski Tour: Sun Valley, Idaho

Sun Valley is on The Honda Ski Tour’s slated for January 11-15, 2007. Here are the music and festival highlights for the United States tour! Daily THST updates & blog!

The Honda Ski Tour has made Sun Valley a stop on a four resort schedule. The other stops include Breckenridge, Colorado, Aspen Snowmass, Colorado and Squaw Valley, California. The party highlights include world-class extreme ski competitions, a film festival, an extreme-action photography competition and, my personal favorite, a music festival!

I’m looking forward to checking everything out and reporting back to you about the festivities, however I must confess, that I am a bit nervous as to the sheer enormity of the event schedule. First, The Honda Ski Tour website is at best confusing and difficult to negotiate. Second, it seems as if someone is confused about basic logistical venue issues. Ketchum Kantina, were there are several bands slated to perform, is now a thrift store and restaurant called Twelve Baskets. Someone is confused, hey it might be me!

The Honda Ski Tour’s Music Festival has smartly secured all the top local area clubs and theaters for their performers. All of the arenas are in walking distance from one another on Main Street in Ketchum. The two venue exceptions are the Street Party and Basecamp Pavilion, performance venues to be built by The Honda Ski Tour. The Street Party features the definitive reggae band The Wailers with DJ Logic. The Wailers open the music festival on Friday January 12th.

Also, playing on January 12th are Kamphire Collective and Swollen Members at the nexStage, a theater with superb acoustics and sound capabilities. Danielia Cotton’s at the Roosevelt Tavern, a great bar and friendly space that also serves as home for a popular open-mic night for locals. DJ Zuz Elan is reportedly scheduled at the Ketchum Kantina. At midnight, DJ Logic takes the stage on his own at Whiskey Jacques’ the local hot spot for live music.

Saturday, January 13th Hinder with DJ Aero, as well as Three Days Grace play Basecamp Pavilion. Don Carlos will be live a Whiskey Jacques’. Jillian Ann is slotted at the Roosevelt Tavern. Finally, the Ketchum Kantina presents DJ Arero at 11pm.
