Alaska ski resorts focus on two major goals in keeping their tourists happy: the unforgettable beauty of their environment and ensuring that their tourists stay warm. Read on to find out what's new with the ski resorts of Alaska: Alyeska Resort, Eaglecrest Ski Area, Moose Mountain Ski Resort and Mt. Aurora Skiland for the 2006-2007 ski season.

Alyeska Resort-Girdwood, Alaska. Alyeska Resort is inarguably the finest ski resort in Alaska. For Alyeska’s 50th anniversary, the resort boasts the opening of The Spa at Alyeska. This quaint spa, which opened in September 2006, supports a relaxing contemporary Asian atmosphere. There is certainly nothing better than being pampered after a hard day of skiing! Check Alyeska for details, as well as a complete spa menu.

The latest extreme skiing film by Warren Miller Productions was shot in Girdwood, Alaska. If you sadly can’t make the trip to Alyeska this year, check out the 360-degree views of the mountain, as expert extreme skiers are dropped off one of their highest out-of-bounds peaks. Don’t miss it. Even the film’s skiers confess that this was the most challenging skiing for the entire shoot! Go to Warren Miller-Suite101 for more film information.

Special Events: Santa Visits! December 21, 2006.

Wear a Santa costume and ski/snowboard for free: December 24, 2006.

Eaglecrest Ski Area-Juneau, Alaska. This season, Eaglecrest Ski Area is changing its operational hours in their pledge to better serve the community of Juneau. The resort will open Wednesday-Sunday and all holiday weekends. Go to Eaglecrest for more details.

Moose Mountain Ski Resort-Fairbanks, Alaska. Moose Mountain happily bears the effects of a serendipitous temperature inversion. This temperature inversion, regularly allows for Moose Mountain to be 20-30 degrees warmer than the city of Fairbanks! The resort will open this season Friday-Sunday and most major holidays. However, they close if it gets too cold. Go to Moose Mountain for their operating schedule.

Mt. Aurora Skiland-Fairbanks. Alaska. “Going downhill since 1962,” Mt. Aurora opens this season Saturday, Sunday and most holidays. Go to Mt. Aurora to check their schedule.

Special Events: Aurora Borealis, mid-August-April. The resort offers a 360-degree full-sky view of the awe-inspiring aurora borealis. It’s just $25.00 to check out the view from their cozy lodge, plus drinks are included! To learn more about aurora borealis, go to Roaring Aurora and the Solar Flares-Suite101.

Have fun skiing Alaska (and stay warm)!
