Review of Olympic Peninsula Loop Tour GuideNorthwest Heritage Resources Audio Tour and Guidebook Series, No. 4
This audio tour is an excellent travel resource for the Northwest, containing traditional music, local interviews and thorough information, including detailed maps.
Encompassing the Olympic Peninsula, this audio tour takes travelers over rivers, past deep lakes, through ancient forests, and the natural areas along the tour are amazing. From the Hood Canal to the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Pacific Ocean or the magnificent views of the Olympic Range, the scenic beauty is well worth the trip. Yet, perhaps the most valuable portion of the tour, is the rich cultural and historical information learned throughout this heritage tour. With thorough information, real experiences and stories, easy to follow directions and valuable contact information, this audio tour is an excellent travel resource. Audio Tour and Guidebook from Northwest Heritage ResourcesThis heritage audio tour is number four in the Washington Heritage Corridor Tour Series by Northwest Heritage Resources, which now includes seven. This heritage tour consists of 330 miles, 7 hours in length, circling the Olympic Peninsula from Olympia traveling north to Port Angeles and then west to Forks and then south to Aberdeen along the Pacific Ocean. From Aberdeen the tour heads east, back to Olympia, completing the tour of this Washington peninsula. The audio tour includes 3 CDs and a 50-page guidebook. The slim guidebook includes sleeve pockets for the CDs, and is small enough to fit in the glove box, vehicle console or purse or backpack. The guidebook includes maps: a large overview of the entire tour and a map for each region along the way. The maps are easy to read, with an explanation of points of interest in each region. The guidebook contains additional information not available on the audio portion of the tour and is enjoyable to read both before and after the tour. Each destination or point of interest listed, includes valuable contact information, which is very useful after leaving the house. A calendar of events, bibliography and list of chamber of commerce and tourism offices are an added bonus. The audio tour contains specific stopping places along the way, where travelers will drive with the CD stopped or paused. The narrator will then let the traveler know where to start the CD again, naming a specific road sign or mileage marker. This is another very useful feature, which allows the traveler room to make stops or take additional time at viewpoints or points of interest. With recordings of music such as drumming and bluegrass, interviews with spiritual leaders, business owners, cultural historians, Native American storytellers, guides, and other experts, the audio tour contains a well of information. The narration provides facts and historical accounts of Washington pioneers and settlers, many of these lesser known facts, providing thorough information for visitors on the road. Where to Find This Audio GuideThis heritage audio tour is available from the Northwest Heritage Resources website, by phone (206) 306-1181, or through local or regional booksellers. The audio tour is available on CDs and MP3s. Northwest Heritage Resources provides audio tours of Washington state, with special attention to cultural and historical points of interest.
